Community ICT is a web-based resource providing opportunities for individuals and organizations to directly access documents, reports and articles, discussion forums, and links to websites with rich related information on rural, remote, northern and Aboriginal internet connectivity and information and communication technology (ICT). The website has been developed by researchers at the Faculty of Human Ecology, University of Manitoba.

Welcome

This website is the product of a study on information and communication technology in Aboriginal communities in Canada as it relates to social capital. The study Information and Communication Technology in Aboriginal Communities in Canada: Increasing Aboriginal Social Capital was conducted by the Faculty of Human Ecology, The University of Manitoba, and funded by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council with the Crossing Boundaries Research Initiative. It was completed in June of 2008. Aside from producing a discussion paper, the rich consultative process of the study fostered the creation of a network of resources that is potentially of use for individuals, communities and organizations interested in community ICT.  This website is meant to be both a forum for ongoing examination and debate of issues related to community ICT and a clearinghouse of resources for the use of Aboriginal communities, Aboriginal organizations, government, and researchers in relation to ICT and social capital.

The website welcomes the participation of anyone interested via the forums, surveys, posting of documents, questions, etc. Questions about the website can be directed to Javer Mignone or Heather Henley at henley2@cc.umanitoba.ca
